Animals have always been one of my biggest passions. I am a strong animal rescue proponent and donate a portion of all sales of art work to animal rescue. I have several animals that are part of my family. In fact, they are my kids and we love them more than anything. After witnessing the amazing benefits of the oils on my husband and I, it was only a matter of time before I researched using them on my animals. There are several vet websites that have posted a wealth of information on using the oils. I researched, consolidated the information, and then started using the oils on my pets.
The most dramatic result I have seen using essential oils on my dogs is with Lavender. One dog was so scared of thunderstorms that she would almost shake herself apart. She was inconsolable during storms. I diluted lavender and started putting it on her ear tips, paws and back when a storm approached. After several storms, she began seeking me out to get her lavender before the storm hit. She now waits out the storm sitting in plain view on the couch, sleeping calmly! She is no longer cowered in a corner shaking herself to pieces. She even sat in my lap huddled in a closet as tornado weather wreaked havoc outside without shaking. The interesting thing is that this has carried over to fireworks, other loud noises and traveling in the car. She now does everything with more confidence. This inspired me to create my own diluted blend of lavender to sell to people that need help for their pets, I call it Calm During the Storm. /calm-during-the-storm.html
One of our dogs had a cyst on her shoulder and a large red spot that was growing on her head. The vet wanted to sedate her and surgically remove the spots but she had heartworms when we adopted her which caused permanent lung damage. The risk of sedation with lung damage was so scary for me that I decided to use the oils first. I used a diluted mixture of frankincense and lavender with fractionated coconut oil daily and within one week the spots started drastically shrinking.
My other dog has congestive heart failure and Atypical Addisons Disease. After consulting with a vet I began a protocol of the Balancing Blend and a specific mixture of helichrysum, frankincense, cypress, majoram, lavender and fco. I highly recommend searching facebook for the vets that use essential oil in their practice. They post some very interesting information.
I have many other oil uses for pets, please let me know if you are interested and I will email you information I've found while researching.
